Lick's
franchises beat big chains in unit sales according to
Ontario Restaurant News
report
TORONTO
Ontario Restaurant News (ORN) recently ranked the top 50 restaurant chains in
the province by total gross revenues. Tim Horton's ranked #1 with estimated Year
2000 revenues of $1.144 billion from its 941 stores. Lick's, the burger and ice
cream chain, ranked 42nd. with revenues of $26.4 million from 20 stores in Ontario.
"But we actually did better than
#1 Tim's. The average revenue per unit at Tim's in the ORN analysis amounts to
$1.2 million while the average Lick's store nets $1.3 million," says Denise
Meehan Lick's founder and president.
"Lick's
outperformed all other burger chains with the exception of McDonald's," she
added.
The August ORN
statistics shows Lick's generates more average revenue per unit than fast food
competitors #4 ranked KFC Canada, #7 Burger King, #8 Harvey's, #9 Pizza Pizza,
#18 Dairy Queen, #22 A&W and Lick's edges #6 Wendy's by $200,000 per unit,
according to the ORN estimates.
Of the 50 chain restaurants analyzed by ORN, Lick's exceeds the average unit revenues
of all but 15, and those include high cheque average places such as the Prime
Restaurant group, the Sir Corp restaurants, The Keg and Movenpick outlets as well
as the casinos in Rama and Windsor, "none of which are our competitors,"
says Meehan.
"What
it boils down to in real terms is that the franchisees in the Lick's family generate
more revenue than almost all their direct competitors," says Meehan.
"It also indicates to me that our
customers are loyal and strong wherever we open, which is why we are celebrating
our 20th anniversary in business this year," Meehan adds.
